Public Policy Intern duties could include, but are not limited to, the following: ● Research state issues and policies related to individuals with disabilities ● Produce written deliverables, including memos and white papers, to help educate stakeholders about the Easterseals Central Texas/Easterseals Coalition Serving Texas 2019 policy platform ● Attend and report on legislative and state agency hearings ● Monitor implementation of relevant bills and interim charges ● Participate in stakeholder meetings and other advocacy efforts ● Provide content for the Easterseals Coalition Serving Texas advocacy Facebook and Twitter pages. ● Contribute to the Easterseals Coalition Serving Texas Newsletter ● Assist in occasional event planning ● Collaborate with other departments as needed
Ideal candidates have strong writing, research, and verbal skills; a strong familiarity with the Texas legislative process; and a commitment to the Easterseals mission. Due to the breadth of subject matters covered by this internship, interns must be organized, willing to work independently, and fast learners. Interns must be able to prioritize effectively and be willing to take on an array of projects. Applicants must not be currently involved in any other activities with government agencies or state/federal government officials including, but not limited to, paid positions or internships. Interns must take a TB test before beginning with Easter Seals Central Texas.
